Dear members:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for all the help and support you have given me for the last three years! Everything that has been accomplished because of you, not me. I just think that three years is enough and it’s time for someone else to have the support you have given me. On ward and up word, let us have a great show and a super rest of the year!!

ARKANSAS KENNEL CLUB – GENERAL MEETING MINUTES – May 21, 2008
Meeting called to order at 6:31 P.M. by President Grant Davis.
Members in attendance: Carleen C. Peterson, George N. Peterson, Donna Crookham, Clyde Crookham, Dotty Jobe, Rebecca Crawford, Peffy Crawford, Patty Montez, Pat Boggs, Sheryl Starns, Bonnie Bennett, Biill Bennett, Mary Davis, Susan Jackson, and Grant Davis.
Motion made and seconded to approve the minutes as published in the newsletter. Objection raised by Patty Montez stating that the reassignment of the public education chair was not shown in the minutes. Secretary George Peterson read a section of the March 19th, 2008 minutes confirming that the change had been previously published. Original motion passed unanimously. Secretary George Peterson informed the membership that the American Kennel Club had been informed of the reassignment, and their response had already been received.
Secretary George Peterson read a “thank you” note received from Jean Smith for the Arkansas Kennel Club’s donation to the church in memory of Bob. Additional correspondence received from the American Kennel Club regarding contributions to Take the Lead. Annual membership for clubs is $500.00. President Grant Davis asked that discussion regarding a donation to Take the Lead be brought up during new business.
Treasurer Susan Jackson gave the treasurer report. Motion made and passed to approve the treasurer report as stated.
Show Chair Bill Bennett stated that everything was on track for the upcoming shows. He had a box of premium lists ready for distribution. Best in Show rosettes will again be in shadow boxes. SC Bennett will contact Onofrio to have rosettes sent to Christine Anderson.
Discussion followed regarding judge transportation to and from the shows. Susan and Dana Jackson, Dotty Jobe and Peggy Crawford volunteered to help. Vendors may enter the Hall of Industry at 9:00 A.M., exhibitors may enter the Hall beginning at 3:00 P.M. on Friday, June 20th. Exhibitors may enter other grooming buildings (Farm & Ranch, Arts & Crafts) at noon on Friday, June 20th.
SC Bennett asked for a list of potential judges for the August 2009 shows (August 8th and August 9th, 2009). Secretary George Peterson suggested that the Arkansas Kennel Club August, 2008 general meeting be as short as possible, with the membership devoting the remainder of the evening to a “judges selection meeting” for the 2009 shows.
Judge Hospitality Chair Carleen Peterson reported on responses received from the judges regarding their arrival/departure times, room and ring side beverage preference. All but five of the judges have responded. Show Chair Bill Bennett stated that one of the judges had sent the information directly to him. JHC Carleen said that that judge had not been on the list that SC Bennett had sent to her, but that she would get an information letter off to him as soon as possible.
Pat Boggs said that grooming reservations were coming in, and that there were only four spaces left.
Nominating Committee: Carleen Peterson, Donna Crookham and Dotty Jobe proposed the following slate for the 2008/2009 Arkansas Kennel Club officers and board members.
President: Mary Davis
Vice-President: George Peterson
Secretary: Sheryl Starns
Treasurer: Susan Jackson
Show Chair: Bill Bennett
Board Members: Christine Anderson, Donna Crookham and Grant Davis
Nominations from the floor were as follows:
President: Sheryl Starns and Christine Anderson
Question raised because Christine Anderson was not present to accept the nomination. A letter of acceptance from Ms. Anderson was read, and then given to Secretary George Peterson for the records. Nominations were then closed for president.
No further nominations for vice-president.
Nomination was made from the floor for George Peterson – secretary. Mr. Peterson respectfully declined due to current overload of club responsibilities. However, Mr. Peterson stated that he would be willing to accept the position if Sheryl Starns is elected president, and if the board asks him to resume responsibilities of the secretary.
No further nominations for treasurer or show chairman.
Nominations from the floor for board members were as follows:
Clyde Crookham, Bonnie Bennett and Carleen Peterson
Motion made and passed to close nominations. Elections will take place at the June 18, 2008 Arkansas Kennel Club general meeting. New officers and board members will assume their positions on July 1, 2008.
Bonnie Bennett asked that anyone who has put a championship, or other AKC recognized title, during the past year (July 1, 2007 to June 30, 2008) to please mail (via snail mail) a copy of the certificate to her as soon as possible. George Peterson must have the information by the first of August in order to have the awards made. Plaques will be presented at the Arkansas Kennel Club annual picnic/banquet in September. The Bennetts have offered to have that event at their home again this year.
President Grant Davis gave contact information to Publicity Chair Carleen Peterson regarding a television appearance on June 20th to advertise the ArKC shows. PC Carleen will organize appearance of some club members and their dogs.
Old business: Sheryl Starns gave report on progress of the Responsible Dog Owners Day event on September 13th, 2008. Set up will start at 8:00 A.M. at the River Market. Several suggestions were made regarding events for participation by the general public.
New business: Secretary George Peterson again brought up the American Kennel Club’s correspondence regarding the Take the Lead Foundation. Motion was made to donate $500.00 to the Take the Lead Foundation. Discussion followed. Motion passed by show of hands.
Secretary Peterson passed around information containing home first aid for dogs that he had purchased for home use. Information was in a book and an accompanying DVD. President Grant Davis said that having the information as part of public education might be beneficial to the public.
Braggs: Several, including a very interesting “search & rescue” event related by Pat Boggs. Refer to Pat’s website for more information. www.sarschips.net
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M.
