About Us

The Arkansas Kennel Club, Inc. is a non-profit, all breed conformation club. The purpose of this club is generally to do everything for the betterment and protection of dogs, to advance the study, breeding, exhibiting, running and maintenance of pure bred dogs and to hold annually at least one dog show and/or field trial. We are a member of the American Kennel Club which was founded in 1884 by show- giving clubs to bring order to the sport of dogs.

The Arkansas Kennel Club's first AKC sanctioned dog show was held in November, 1944. We became a member of the American Kennel Club in June, 1951. We now hold our two yearly AKC sanctioned dog shows back-to-back in August, with approximately 1000 dogs competing each day. The next weekend of shows will be held on Saturday, August 9, 2014 and Sunday August 10, 2014. ln conjunction with our dog show weekend, we generally hold a Sanctioned B All Breed match on the eveneing before our first show and a raffle during the day on Saturday.

Throughout the year we have educational events, fun matches and training classes. The club has a breeder referral service to help a potential buyer locate a sound, quality puppy from a responsible breeder. We also have a library of video tapes for member educational viewing. In addition we have a number of pamphlets from the American Kennel Club concerning care, breeding, showing, etc. that are available to the public.

Each autumn we have an awards picnic meeting. Each member earning a title during the past year on a dog they own receives a plaque inscribed with the name of the dog and the name of the owner(s).

The Arkansas Kennel Club meets at 6:30 pm the third Wednesday of each month at the Central Arkansas Public Library, 100 Rock Street, Little Rock, Arkansas. Meetings may include programs by guest speakers or club members on current topics of interest.
